Robert (Bob) P. Larson of Wayzata, Minnesota, was elected Chairman of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s National Board of Directors at the group’s recent meeting. The final founding member still serving on Pheasants Forever’s national board, Larson held the post of board secretary for three decades, and will now preside as chairman for Pheasants Forever’s 30th anniversary celebration.

As a young lawyer, Larson frequently donated his legal time to wildlife organizations. Approached by Jeff Finden (Pheasants Forever’s first president and CEO) and Dennis Anderson (founder and past chairman) about the concept of a new nonprofit organization devoted to wildlife habitat conservation, Larson incorporated Pheasants Forever on August 5, 1982 and has served on its national board since.

A Minneapolis native and lifelong pheasant hunter, Larson, like all fellow members, volunteers his time to serve on Pheasants Forever’s National Board of Directors. “Volunteerism is what drives Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, from our chapter level officers to our board of directors,” Howard Vincent, Pheasants Forever President and CEO said, “From day one, Bob has been there crafting Pheasants Forever’s vision for the future.” Larson and his wife, Chris, have two grown children, four grandchildren and a black standard poodle named “Valborg” that is being trained to hunt upland birds.

“The challenge that our world brings is daunting if we stand by ourselves braving the wind, the rain, and politics of humanity,” Larson says, “Together we can bring progress by honoring our past, protecting our present and shaping our future. Pheasants Forever, once a lonely small ‘bird club’ in Minnesota urging government agencies to not mow ditches, now protects and improves more than a million acres annually across the nation for our wildlife, our water and our land. Please join Pheasants Forever in this wonderful journey.”

Also elected to positions on Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s National Board of Directors were Tim Kessler of Aberdeen, South Dakota, who will serve as board secretary, and Jon Lee of Missoula, Montana, who will serve as board treasurer. The board oversees the operations of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, the nation’s largest upland conservation organization.

Pheasants Forever will hold its annual National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic on February 15, 16 and 17, 2013 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The national convention and outdoor tradeshow will mark the Twin Cities-based wildlife habitat conservation organization’s 30th anniversary.
