A Barnyard Thank You
Lemmon, South Dakota resident Don Soncrant, a life member of Pheasants Forever, had the organization's logo placed on his barn to say thank you to PF and his local chapter, the Grand River chapter.
The Grand River chapter has worked with Don in its support of the local trap & skeet range, sponsoring free shells to all youths under 16-years-old, as well as five free Sundays where they can come with an adult and shoot all day at the range for free. The chapter also bought two youth shotguns for use at the range, and is now sponsoring hunter safety classes. With the help of the new president Brad Dawen and his committee, local children are learning hunter safety and shooting skills, sometimes to their father's embarrassment. The chapter is presently setting up a hot line where fathers or mothers can take their children to hunt without charge. The chapter is looking forward to more projects that will benefit habitat and youth involvement in the hunting world.
If you have story ideas, dog photos, pre-1980 hunting photos and requests for future On The Wing consideration, please send correspondence to ahauck@pheasantsforever.org.
