Newsmakers
- The Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of Pheasants Forever is now accepting applications for their 2009 Mentored Youth Pheasant Hunt. This year's hunt will be held on October 10, 2009. Junior hunters, age 12 through 16, who have successfully completed Hunter/Trapper education may participate with or without a hunting license and accompaniment as required by law. Pre-registration is mandatory and participation is limited to the first 40 youth hunters that sign up. Apps for the 2009 Bernard T. Suda Memorial Youth Pheasant Hunt are available at www.nepapf.org under the link "Youth Hunting Main Page" or call Jay Delaney, chapter youth/education chairman at (570) 825-4424.
- The Northwest Suburban (Minnesota) Chapter of Pheasants Forever has made a contribution of six .22 rifles for use in local Firearm Safety Courses. In the past, the Firearm Safety classes utilized only a few rifles that were supplied by class instructors. The limited number and variety of firearms supplied caused concern for the instructors. Now the class participants will have ample opportunities to gain shooting experience and learn firearm safety. The rifles will also be made available for Pheasants Forever youth program events when they are not in use by the Firearm Safety classes.
- The Plymouth County (Iowa) Chapter of Pheasants Forever has added three new members to its youth council as a result of its 2009 Field Day. The Wyandot County (Ohio) Chapter of Pheasants Forever in cooperation with Rogers Lake and the Carey Conservation Club held four youth trap shoots throughout the course of the summer, introducing over 50 boys and girls to the sport.
- Iowa's history of strong Pheasants Forever support continues, as the organization's first-ever "Life Member Party" resulted in 10 new Pheasants Forever Life Members. Look for their mention in an upcoming edition of the Pheasants Forever Journal.
