With the support of people like you, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s Build a Wildlife Area® program has permanently protected more than 22 square miles of habitat in 14 states through this unique, partner-driven matching gift program.

The McCann Creek Fishery Area addition is a permanent habitat protection project contributing to the goals of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s Call of the Uplands® national campaign - a monumental initiative to save America’s uplands and cultivate the next generation of conservationists and hunters.

This week we’re celebrating our past successes, sharing more about our ambitious goals, and rallying to raise support for the Build a Wildlife Area program.

Welcome to Build a Wildlife Area Week!

The McCann Creek Fishery Area Addition is located north of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and provides 182 acres of additional access immediately adjacent to the existing 184-acre McCann Creek Fishery Area.

This land will provide hunters with expanded access to quality hunting on over 140 acres of excellent pheasant habitat. Northwest Wisconsin is home to the state’s most stable wild pheasant populations, and this acquisition also expands opportunities for fishing and trapping, creating an all-around sportsmen’s paradise for Bloomer Township and Chippewa County.

The McCann Creek Fishery Area Addition includes 80 acres of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) prairie, 66 acres of combined wet meadow, emergent wetland and hemi-marsh restored through the Wetland Reserve Program (WRP), and 35 acres of riparian forest and shrubland. McCann Creek, a Class 1 trout stream, flows through the acquisition. The property provides habitat not only for pheasants and brook trout, but turkey, waterfowl, deer and many other non-game wildlife species.

Funding support for this project came from the Chippewa Valley Chapter of Pheasants Forever and a diverse array of sponsors including Wisconsin’s Knowles Nelson Stewardship Program, the North American Wetlands Conservation Act, Chippewa County Stewardship Fund, Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

By donating to our Build a Wildlife Area, you will ensure our organization is able to secure more properties like the recent McCann Creek Fishery Area Addition in Chippewa County, Wisconsin.
