Quail Forever (QF) is excited to introduce the new Kentucky state coordinator, Savannah Ricks. In her role, Ricks will drive Kentucky habitat programs, lead a talented team of field staff, and work closely with partners to ensure habitat conservation continues to be recognized as a critically important driver of abundant wildlife populations, sustainable agriculture, healthy soil, and clean water.
“Savannah has been an integral member of our south region QF team, showing strong leadership skills with staff members and partners,” said Sara Lyda, Quail Forever’s south region conservation delivery manager. “We look forward to seeing her build a team of biologists dedicated to establishing habitat for upland birds and pollinators in Kentucky.”
Since 2021, Ricks has been working for The Habitat Organization as a Farm Bill biologist in Kentucky. During this time, she developed strong relationships with partner organizations such as the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), familiarized herself with many land conservation programs and connected with local landowners to help them reach their habitat conservation goals. Prior to this, Ricks was a graduate research assistant for North Dakota State University (NDSU) and served as a lead biological science technician for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center in Jamestown, N.D. Ricks holds a bachelor’s degree in wildlife and conservation biology from Murray State University and a master’s degree in range science from NDSU.
Ricks will now coordinate and lead state-level habitat efforts in The Bluegrass State, ensuring effective and lasting conservation delivery throughout the state’s quail range on private and public lands.
“I’m excited to bring my passion for Quail Forever and the organization’s mission to my new position,” Ricks said. “I have fostered wonderful relationships with the biologist team and our partners here in Kentucky, and I hope to create a lasting impact on the quality and quantity of quail habitat throughout the state.”
